With over 7,000 non-fatal injuries to employees in Ireland, stated by the Health and Safety Authority (HSA), it is important for employers to be prepared for any accidents that may occur.

Accidents Happen

The Health and Safety Authority (HSA) publish annual summary statistics for workplace injuries in Ireland.

Below are the latest statistics available for 2019/2020:

  • 7,417 reported non-fatal injuries
  • 96.3% of non-fatal injuries were reported to the HSA
  • This is affected by under-reporting of accidents by the self-employed. 277 involving non-workers reported, representing 3.7% of all injuries
  • 486,000 working days lost due to non-fatal work-related injuries
  • Almost 60% of all reported non-fatal injuries led to 4-6 days (27.4%) or 7-13 days (32.3%) of lost work
