Our Site Teams Interact and Integrate Very Closely with Customers

Graham Watts, Marine, Automotive and Aerospace

I've worked for Arco for 27 years in a variety of roles, predominantly with clients in the heavy engineering sector. My primary customer specialises in heavy metalworking for shipbuilding and repairs to nuclear submarines and aircraft carriers in dockyards in Devon and Scotland. As you can imagine, this presents a huge range of safety challenges.

The Full Spectrum of Safety Challenges

Their employees are involved in metal handling, welding, oils and grease, heavy lifting and all the associated risks. So, there's a constant need for a wide range of safety equipment from helmets and safety footwear to hi-viz, welding masks and gloves, confined space working and working at height training and equipment.

What my sector experience, and the rest of the Arco team, provides is reassurance for the customer. They know our expertise goes beyond product and is informed by years of sector knowledge and a deep understanding of their admin, operating processes and part numbers and extends right through to the needs of their own customer, the Ministry of Defence.

Going Above and Beyond for the Customer

Uniquely, we have site teams who live and breathe the customer's needs. They're constantly on site, fully integrated with the customer to provide convenient, efficient logistics and account management.

Our Safety Centre in Scotland also provides them with facilities that are second to none for training in confined space working, gas detection and working at height. Recently, we have also carried out a project to reinvigorate their workwear, which involved assessing the applicability to each role, taking account of user preferences and requirements and developing a coverall specifically to meet those needs.

Gloved hand with canister

To date we've supplied in excess of 4,000 coveralls to their dockyard workforce, all personalised with names and deptartments. We also conduct role-based audits of a customer’s requirements to ensure our supply of PPE and workwear is tailored for the hazards faced by those users.

This is just one of many examples from across the sector where our understanding of what customers really need has allowed us to tailor product and training solutions to keep people and businesses safe across a wide spectrum of manufacturing operations in the UK and Ireland.
