Our Joined-up Approach Helps Customers Safely Deliver on SLAs

Chris Vowles, Utilities and Energy

As a Key Account Manager in the Utilities and Energy sectors, the customers I work with are large organisations with multiple sites and a wide range of safety risks. A particular risk in the energy sector is arc flash protection but there are also challenges around teams who are working at height and in confined spaces, as well as all the usual hazards like slips, trips, falls and general personal protection.

A Complete, End-to-End Approach

We're unique in being able to bring a true, end-to-end, joined-up approach to safety for our customers. For many of our energy customers, we provide a full package of broad safety expertise, energy sector knowledge and a huge range of high quality products. On top of that we also provide working at height and confined space training and equipment maintenance from the experts within Arco Professional Safety Services.

Helping a Customer Safely Deliver on SLAs

One of the challenges we've helped one typical energy sector client overcome is the ability to deliver on their own service level agreements while keeping their people safe. Their SLAs require their people to be on site within 45 mins. However, if the job requires them to wear masks or breathing equipment, face fit requirements mean users need to be clean shaven. Unfortunately, that often isn't possible within a 45 minute window.

Our experts used their knowledge and skills to come up with a powered air system which provided the client with alternative approach, enabling them to fulfil their obligations. We were highly commended for the expertise and effort that went into this innovative solution.

Keeping Workers Safe in the Winter

We're constantly putting forward similar innovations and improvements for our customers. A recent challenge we were able to help one customer with was helping their people to be more visible when working in the dark during the winter. We came up with a simple light strip which provided a quick, simple and cost-effective solution to the problem.

Taking The Heat Out of a Dangerous Situation

On another occasion whilst auditing the flame retardant clothing used by one of our clients, we realised that it simply wasn’t up to the job. By testing the material in our Product Assurance laboratory, we could see that the clothing was not offering the users the protection they needed for the task. This allowed us to specify the right range of arc-flash clothing to protect in these highly hazardous environments. It's our work and understanding of industries like Energy, Utilities and Oil and Gas that have helped us build an envied range of flame retardant and multi-norm garments for our customers.

We really do want to keep people safe at work. It genuinely is a passion, not just a motto.
